Ivan megharoopan is conceived as the eventful life journey of poet laureate KP Madhavan Nair, a character drawn from the life story of the great Malayalam poet P Kunhiraman Nair. Madhavan Nair hails from a landed aristocratic family of North Malabar. His poetic leanings were on display at a young age, when he took to his wandering ways to satiate an intense inner hunger in search of his muse – his poetic deity. The passionate intensity with which he offers his experiences to his poetic deity often insulates the poet from the mundane realities of the practical world. Even when the world of literature honours him with tributes and awards, the poet is stuck in his nether world in an unending quest for his poetic deity. The film examines the intricate weave of his relationships with the many women in his life, thereby exposing his disarming simplicity, which in a way serves as an explanation to his seemingly bohemian odyssey.
Megharoopan is not Mahakavi P’s lifestory.. But for his poetic life, the film would not have been possible.
